8 WHAT DOES THE FACULTY DO? Sets curricula and standards for examinations Runs educational meetings Supports Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provides advice on pharmaceutical medicine FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

10 PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE SPECIALTY TRAINING (PMST) Minimum four year programme including passing the Diploma Competency – based modular assessment All modules are compulsory At least three must be workplace based GMC have recently approved the new curriculum FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

11 PMST contd Participants must … –Have an Educational supervisor –Have a training record for each module –Have an Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP) meeting with the Postgraduate Dean FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

12 PMST contd J oint responsibility of Postgraduate Dean, Faculty and the Specialty Advisory Committee on Pharmaceutical Medicine (SAC-PM) Entrance requirement of four years post graduation general medical training Programme approved by Minister of Health in 2002 Pharmaceutical Medicine listed as a specialty in 2002 in Schedule 2 of the European Specialist Medical Qualification order of 1995. 13 PMST STATISTICS 220 active trainees, 45-50 new trainees p.a. 68 training sites 30 SSAs, 100+ ESs 366 NTNs issued 113 CCTs awarded 46 people in CCT process need to pass DPM in 2010, 23 by 2011, 38 by 2012 FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

18 TRAINEES SUBCOMMITTEE Needs to review how it develops its membership Meets 2-3 times p.a. Advises the Deanery and FPM Education Committee Represents the Deanery on external groups Facilitates communication between trainees and between Faculty and trainees FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

19 TRAINEES SUBCOMMITTEE contd PMETB Report highlighted –Trainees aware of Subcommittee’s existence –Trainees didn’t know their reps –Trainees’ views were not actively sought –Poor feedback on Subcommittee discussions and outcomes FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom

20 REVALIDATION Trainees will need to be licensed to practise Faculty focus groups in abeyance Tri-faculty pilot now funded FACULTY OF PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom
