4 NEW ENTRANTS Once the NDIS is operational in your area- July new participants need to 1) Pass the NDIS access checklist 2) Contact the NDIA on and ask for an Access Request Form. (At this stage this is the only way to get a form ) 3) Receive and complete the Access Request Form 4) Provide supporting documentation if required 5) Return to the NDIA

What are the outcomes you would like to see? What results would you like to achieve? Why are you doing this? What would you like to see/do/learn ? What are the benefits to you?

12 The NDIS Reasonable and necessary supports

13 What are reasonable and necessary supports?
Reasonable and necessary supports are funded by the NDIS in a range of areas, which may include education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements and health and wellbeing. These supports will help participants to: pursue their goals, objectives and aspirations increase their independence increase social and economic participation, and develop their capacity to actively take part in the community. What does the NDIS mean by ‘goals’?

14 How does the National Disability Insurance Agency know what is reasonable and necessary?
What does the NDIS mean by ‘goals’? NDIA staff make decisions based on the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (NDIS Act) and the rules made under the NDIS Act. The operational guidelines also provide practical guidance for decision makers. When NDIA staff makes decisions about which supports would be reasonable and necessary for a particular participant, they refer to the particular operational guideline that relates to each specific support. In order to be considered reasonable and necessary, a support must: be related to the participant’s disability not include day-to-day living costs that are not related to a participant’s disability support needs represent value for money be likely to be effective and beneficial to the participant, and take into account informal supports given to participants by families, carers, networks, and the community.
