Try Rovers The Proposal For A New Venturer & Rover Incentive

What Is “Try Rovers”? Try Rovers is a badge that venturers can achieve, it is a supplement badge to the link badge. The proposed badge design is: Designed by Kent Palmer Thank-you

What Do The Venturers Need To Do? To Achieve this badge venturers need to: – Attend 3 different rover activities – These activities can include: Crew Camps Hikes Night Activities Single Day Events & Activities

Steps To Achieving The Badge 1.The Venturer decides to achieve the badge 2.They find out contact details for two (if possible) local rover crews 3.They call the local crew leader, the crew leader tells them about possible activities that they can attend 4.The venturer attends the events 5.After the venturer has attended 3 events, the Rover Crew Leader present the individual with the badge.

Requirements To Achieve The Badge The venturer must be 16 ½ to achieve the badge The venturer should not go to a moot All activities must be alcohol free Events that span over multiple days only count as one event Pre-organised events (such has rover and venturer camps or nights) do not count, the event must be a rover event, this is to allow the venturer to get a full experience of what being a rover is all about.

What are the origins of this badge? The Badge is adapted from the national “try venturing badge” The try venturing badge was implemented originally in Victoria, but due to its success was then made into a national badge Since then other sections are starting to develop “Try.....” badges (eg – Try Cubs & Try Scouts”

What Do We Have To Do? An information pack containing posters, presentations and samples will go out at 2008 Conference – IF approved by the BRC Each group will get an information pack containing items stated above to be posted up around the hall Rovers are responsible for purchasing the badges, the current quote is $1.15 per badge

Cost As the Try Rovers badge will benefit rovers, each crew will have to purchase the badge (just like a normal badge) Westwind Designs quoted the following prices: – 800 will cost $1.54 per badge – 1,000 will cost $1.21 per badge The size of the badge will be around the size of a traditional post it note

Cost & Location of Badge According to the August stats there are 887 venturers above the age of 16 I recommend getting the 1,000 badges as it covers all venturers over 16 plus extra for promotion as well as allowing for future venturer growth The badge will go on the left shoulder of the uniform, this is the same location as the Try Venturing badge.

What Will Be In This Pack? A Power point presentation about the badge Information pamphlets about the badge A list of possible activities that your crew can hold Posters for scout halls A sample badge Record slips that can be put in the venturers log book

What Now? Regions are to take this proposal back to their regions. This presentation will be posted up on the forums, it can also be sent by post on a CD if requested. Each region can vote on whether to accept the badge, reject the badge, or ask for further development of this badge We need to vote this BRC though, if you would like the badge to be shown at the NRC in January
