3 Plan – Clear and realistic goals – The things that get measured get done – Keep and set deadlines Minimize distractions – Concentration skills Prioritize – Urgent vs. important tasks – Begin with the most difficult task – Postpone unnecessary activities until the work is done

4 Set limits – Learn to say no Take time to do a quality job Break large tasks into smaller ones – Take a break when needed – The mind works in 20 min segments Get something done every day Complete routine work efficiently Don’t let others waste your time and don’t waste other’s time

5 Keep your work with you – If you have extra time you can get something done Find your productive time – Work when you are at your best “treat it like a job” Don’t get sidetracked – Especially when working on-line Get a good night’s sleep every night – 8 hours – Live like a clock

6 Dealing With E-mail Define a specific time to check e-mail – Twice a day – Also works well with phone calls Skip it – Only read e-mails that are relevant to your life Do it immediately – There is always a cost when you look at the same thing 2 or 3 times The 5 line rule

7 Procrastination Identify it – What is it that you are putting off Understand it – Feelings that support procrastination Defeated by stress management – Behaviors that contribute to procrastination Use rewards to complete the task that you are avoiding – Thoughts that contribute to procrastination Positive self talk
