POSITION “Most of us, whether we are aware of it or not, do things with an eye to the approval of some audience or other. The question is not whether we have an audience but which audience we have.” (Os Guinness)

Jesus Christ “He made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant.” “He made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.”

POWER Independence and influence Power of personal choice “Choice is no longer just a state of mind. Choice has become a value, a priority, a right. Choice for modern man is a right that overwhelms both responsibility and rationality.” (Os Guinness)

Jesus Christ “The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing. (John 5 v 19) “I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.” (John 8 v 28)

POSSESSIONS “Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.” (Acts 7 v 22)

Jesus Christ “A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. (Luke 12 v 15) “What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? (Mark 8 v 36)

Apostle Paul “Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in his wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb – preaching of all things! – to bring those who trust him into the way of salvation.” (1Corinthians 1 v 21)

PLEASURES OF SIN “Moses had been engaged in a sustained rebellion of sinful actions. He kept committing the same sins over and over again because of the pleasure he received from them.”

Following Jesus Christ “In the gospel there is an antithesis to the world that we dare not relax, a cost to discipleship that we cannot waive, a challenge to obedience that we must not conceal, and a scandal to faith that we should never airbrush away.” (Os Guinness)

C.S. Lewis (The Great Divorce) “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, in the end, “Thy will be done.” That is the difference between heaven and hell.”

Identify with the people of God: Suffering: “chose to be mistreated” “ready to suffer disgrace for the sake of Christ.” “he was looking ahead to his reward.”
