3 Click on a Topic to Begin History of FractionsSimplifying Fractions Multiplying FractionsDividing Fractions Adding FractionsSubtracting Fractions References Standard 6-2 The student will demonstrate through mathematical processes an understanding of the concepts of whole-number percentages, integers, and ratio and rate; the addition and subtraction of fractions; accurate, efficient, and generalizable methods of multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals; and the use of exponential notation to represent whole numbers.

4 Fractions as we know them today were developed in India. The Hindus originated the rules for simplifying, multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting fractions. Early Hindu books were written on palm leaves before the invention of paper. Return to menu References

5 India is a country located on the continent of Asia. It is the second largest in the world in population. The capital is New Delhi. About 83% of the people are Hindus. Clothing worn by Indians varies by region. Men wear a dhoti and women wear a sari. (Click here for more facts about India.) Flag Return to menu
