From: Differences Between Pick Disease and Alzheimer Disease in Clinical Appearance and Rate of Cognitive Decline Arch Neurol. 2000;57(2):225-232. doi:10.1001/archneur.57.2.225 Maximum-likelihood estimated models of cognitive test score change for the Boston Naming Test, New York University (NYU) Story Delayed Recall (Verbatim), Category Verbal Fluency Test, and Luria Mental Rotation Test. PcD indicates Pick disease; AD, Alzheimer disease. The 4 lines within each group, from high to low, correspond to different years of education (20, 16, 12, and 8 years, respectively). For variables affected by age at disease onset (Boston Naming and NYU Delayed Story Recall), models are plotted against age with separate lines for different onset age by decade (50s through 80s). Best-fitting least-squares lines for normal control subjects (NCS) (n = 60) are superimposed for variables plotted by age (Boston Naming, NYU Delayed Story Recall). Patients with PcD declined significantly faster than patients with AD on the Boston Naming Test (P =.04) and Category Verbal Fluency Test (P<.001), but not on the NYU Delayed Story Recall Test and Luria Mental Rotation Test. PcD indicates Pick disease; AD, Alzheimer disease. Within each group, separate lines correspond to different educational levels and onset ages as explained for Figure 1, except that higher lines correspond to fewer years of education (because the Blessed Dementia Scale and Activities of Daily Living Scale scores measure severity of illness). On both measures, the patients with PcD worsened significantly faster than the patients with AD (P =.03 and P =.02, respectively). Figure Legend:

The PcD group declined significantly (P =.01) more sharply than the AD group across duration of illness. Figure Legend:
