CalculatingPercentages % Increase/Decrease Example The cost of a yearly train ticket has increased by 5%. What is the new price if it currently costs £240 ? Increase = 5% of £240 New cost = £240 + £12 = £252 = 5 ÷ 100 x £240 = £12

If its initial value was £1 000, what is its value now ? 1 st Year Depreciation = 10% x £ 1 000 = 0.1 x £ 1 000 = £100 New Value= £ 1 000 - £ 100 = £ 900 2 nd Year Depreciation = 20% x £ 900 = 0.2 x £ 900 = £ 180 New Value = £ 900 - £ 180 = £ 720
