 Layers of the Earth-crust, mantel, outer core, and the inner core, lithosphere, Asthenosohere, hydrosphere, & Troposphere.

 Troposphere- lowest layer of the Earth, contains all the air and living things.  Hydrosphere-a thin layer of water that rest on the lithosphere. Oceans, lakes, rivers, etc. Covers ¾ of the earth’s surface  Lithosphere- is the top of the crust.  Asthenosphere- is the bottom of the crust of “shell.”

 Crust- surrounds the earth, 75% is covered with water,20 miles thick  Mantle- some solid rock and some lava(magma), 2 layers.  Outer core- is liquid metal( iron and nickel), and it is extremely hot.  Inner core-solid metal, hottest layer even though the iron is not liquid, it’s solid because of the pressure from all the layers.

 Fault Block- created by the earth’s surface by scraping together  Folded- formed by layers of rock building up over time  Dome- formed when magma comes up to the earths surface but can not brake though.

 Convergent- is a result of mountains and volcanoes forming  Divergent- is a result of the sea floor spreading and making new crust  Transform Fault- result of earthquakes

 Plate Tectonics- is a theory that explains when continental drift happened  Convection Currents- in the mantle cause the plates to move  Lithosphere- cut Into 7-12 plates that float on the Asthenosphere

 Weathering- the braking down of rocks, it is caused by repeated freezing and thawing  Erosion- running water, wind, glaciers are all part of the cause of erosion. The main cause of erosion is gravity.

 Igneous-formed when magma cools into rock, Intrusive- formed by cooling magma under the ground. Extrusive- formed by lava above the surface then cools and hardens.  Sedimentary-layers of sediment building up over time. Oldest layer it the bottom, fossils are normally found in this layer.  Metamorphic- when rocks get put under a lot of heat & pressure. Any type of rock can be turned into a Metamorphic Rock. Some examples are marble, & granite.

 Deposition- the state of being deposited or precipitated.  Sedimentation- the process of formation of sedimentary rocks  Cementation- the gluing together of rocks  Mineral are all the building blocks of rocks.
