Genesis 3:1-7 Satan and the Fall of Man

Matthew 22:36–38 (NIV84) “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.

Genesis 3:1 1 The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the L ORD God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

Revelation 12:7–9 (NKJV) And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Ezekiel 28:11–15 (NLT) Please Turn In Your Bible “You were in Eden, the garden of God. Your clothing was adorned with every precious stone…You were blameless in all you did from the day you were created until the day evil was found in you.”

Isaiah 14:12–15 (NASB95) Please Turn In Your Bible “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. 14 ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’

Adam and Eve were “naked” (‘ărûmmîm); and the serpent was more crafty (‘ārûm, “shrewd”) than all. Their nakedness represented the fact that they were oblivious to evil, not knowing where the traps lay, whereas Satan did and would use his craftiness to take advantage of their integrity. Dr. John Walvoord

2 Corinthians 11:3, 14 (NASB95) But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ…No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Distorting or casting doubt on the word of God, is the beginning of every temptation. Dr. W.A. Criswell

Genesis 3:2-3 2 “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. 3 “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

Genesis 3:4-5 4 “You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. 5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

“In denying God’s Word Satan imputed motives to God that were not consistent with God’s character. God’s true motive was the welfare of man, but Satan implied it was God’s welfare at man’s expense.” Dr. Tom Constable

John 8:44 (NLT) For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

“Sin will never make you free. Sin’s seductive promises always turn out to be a mirage! Those relationships we enter against the will of God leave scars that may never fully fade. Those extra trips to the buffet leave us miserable for the rest of the day and place some of us on operating tables. And what about the nicer car, the bigger TV, the latest gadgetry, and the younger wife?

All those things grow old and outdated—leaving us just as empty as we were before. Selfishness and sin never keep their promises. Kurt Strassner Opening Up Genesis

“You Will Be Like God”

Genesis 3:6 6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it…

1 Timothy 2:14 (NLT) And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result. “She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her.”

Luke 4:1-13 Please Turn In Your Bibles

1 John 2:15–17 (NASB95) Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

“ The proposition that an adult can gaze at anything is ludicrous and naive, for gazing is too often followed by desiring and sinning.” Here is the essence of covetousness. It is the attitude that says “I need something I do not now have in order to be happy.” Failure to appreciate God’s goodness leads to distrust of His goodness. God’s prohibitions as well as His provisions are for our good. Tom Constable

2 Timothy 3:1–5 (NIV84) “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money…lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”

Genesis 3:6 Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. Vs. 17 And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat…

James 1:13–17 (NIV84) Please Turn In Your Bible

Genesis 3:7 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. “A keen sense of guilt immediately followed the act of sinning, and their intimate fellowship with God was broken.” Ed Hinson

1 John 4:1–4 (ESV) “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God…

This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

Matthew 6:9–13 (NKJV) In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
