H=help, please raise your hand A=activity, reading, listening, annotating and discussing the reading. M=movement, we are not. P=participation means no heads down, no cell phones, we are reading and writing.

Annotating the Text” The Atlanta Compromise” 20 Minutes Read to yourself for 20 minutes. As you read highlight phrases and sentences that you find grab your attention, use an exclamation mark for items that you find exciting !, ? For items that you have a question about and then right your thought in the margin. You are actively reading and interacting with the text.

Save the Last Word 18 minutes (Cooperative learning groups) Now share out with your group ONE at a time and share on phrase that you highlighted and explain why that stood out to you, each person will speak for ONE MINUTE After the person sharing out is done the group has 3 minutes to comment on the speakers comments or the text it’s self. Repeat the process till all group members have gone.
