3 Homework 2 minutes  Cornell Notes chapter 18 pages 535-547 due Monday February 10, 2014 (10 headings)

4 Aim  I will be able to form an opinion and use evidence to support my claims when studying the struggle for racial equality in a post reconstruction era..

5 CHAMPS  C=conversation, we will be sharing out during group discussion, be RESPECTFUL do not speak over one another and be an active listener.  H=help, please raise your hand  A=activity, reading, listening, annotating and discussing the reading.  M=movement, we are not.  P=participation means no heads down, no cell phones, we are reading and writing.

6 Annotating the Text” The Atlanta Compromise” 20 Minutes  Read to yourself for 20 minutes.  As you read highlight phrases and sentences that you find grab your attention, use an exclamation mark for items that you find exciting !, ? For items that you have a question about and then right your thought in the margin.  You are actively reading and interacting with the text.

7 Save the Last Word 18 minutes (Cooperative learning groups)  Now share out with your group ONE at a time and share on phrase that you highlighted and explain why that stood out to you, each person will speak for ONE MINUTE  After the person sharing out is done the group has 3 minutes to comment on the speakers comments or the text it’s self.  Repeat the process till all group members have gone.

8 Exit Ticket 2 Minutes  Is freedom ever free? Cite evidence from the day’s lesson.
