3 Division I Subdivisions There are 335 total member institutions in Division I of the NCAA There are 335 total member institutions in Division I of the NCAA – 97 are DI only and do not sponsor football – 120 are DI-FBS – Football Bowl Subdivision – 118 are DI-FCS – Football Championship Subdivision  66% are public institutions  34% are private institutions
