8 Sample answer Source D is suggesting that the New Deal has changed the face of the USA. The New Deal has provided good housing and job security. There is a clear path leading to these results. Source E suggests that the New Deal constantly requires more money. It is wasteful, and hurts the taxpayer. All the enemies of the government disappear in keeping the reforms going, without achieving real results. The the 2 sources disagree. One is very pro-Roosevelt. The other is ant-New Deal. Examiners comments This answer provides a clear comparison based on an understanding of each cartoon. It would gain a mark within Level 3.

Hoover did nothing to help the farmers: ‘Rugged Individualism.’ No mention of ‘Overproduction’ in farm production & impact on prices. No Mention of farmers going bankrupt & becoming homeless because they couldn't pay off mortgage. No mention of migration along Route 66 to California ForAgainst Level 4 = an answer which includes one from each column.

13 Question 2 Level 3 Farmer can afford to purchase clothes because of increased farm prices through the work of the AAA = Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Pump Priming – people can afford to buy goods which help to reverse the Spiral of Depression. No mention of the impact of AAA on Sharecroppers. Black people did not benefit from the New Deal for farmers. No mention of the problems facing farmers in the Dust Bowl. ForAgainst Level 4 = an answer which includes one from each column.

Dams were built to prevent flooding which washed away the top soil & droughts in the summer which tried out the soil which was then blown away. Poor region ‘Spiral of Depression.’ Cheap electricity attracted new industries such as chemical, steel and copper wire. Pump Priming – kick started the cycle of prosperity in the area. Created jobs building and maintaining the dams. Stooped flooding and droughts Q1Q2 Level 4 = an answer which includes one from each column.
