Employee motivation - How to Create a Motivating Workplace ?

What is Motivation? Motivation is the force that makes us do things: this is a result of our individual needs being satisfied (or met) so that we have inspiration to complete the task. These needs vary from person to person as everybody has their individual needs to motivate themselves. Depending on how motivated we are, it may further determine the effort we put into our work and therefore increase the standard of the output. When we suggest factors (or needs) that determine the motivation of employees in the workplace, almost everyone would immediately think of a high salary. This answer is correct for the reason that some employees will be motivated by money, but mostly wrong for the reason that it does not satisfy others (to a lasting degree). This supports the statement that human motivation is a personal characteristic, and not a one fits all option.

How to Implement Motivation for Achievement in the Workplace

Motivation is achieved through different factors with different people. It is therefore important that you find out these factors for each employee which can be put into action once identified.

Motivational Theory

How to Motivate Your Employees Create a Friendly Work Environment Your employees spend a large chunk of their lives working in their office, so you should try to make the office look as friendly and appealing as possible. If you create a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for your employees, then they will be more eager to go to work every day

Take advantage of your wall space Your employees will spend a lot of time staring at your walls, so this is a great place to catch their attention and motivate them into doing better work.

Recognizing and Rewarding Your Employees If they've done something truly outstanding, then you should take the time to let them know. Instead of telling people that everyone is doing great, take the time to pull a specific person into your office, or to write an email or a note along with that person's check, to let him know that his work is truly outstanding

Recognize your employees as a group You should take the time to let your team know that they are doing solid work as a unit, and show that you appreciate their efforts at all times. Taking just a few minutes out of your day to praise your employees for good team work can motivate them to work much harder

Reward your employees for hard work Setting up a system of rewards is an excellent way to motivate your employees. Whether you set up a contest to see who can accomplish something the fastest on a certain day, or if you have a competition to see who can generate the most revenue by the end of the month, any contest that has a reward, even if it's silly, will keep your employees motivated to produce solid work

Developing Great Relationships in the Workplace Get to know your employees. If you develop a stronger relationship with your employees, you'll not only have a better sense of what makes them tick, but they'll also like you more and will be more motivated to work for you as a result

Create social events Having a few social events on the calendar will help people in your office get to know each other. People will be much more excited to come to work and to do their work if they are friendly, or even friends, with their coworkers

The Importance of Motivation Motivation can have an effect on the output of your business and concerns both quantity and quality. Your business relies heavily on the efficiency of your production staff to make sure that products are manufactured in numbers that meet demand for the week. If these employees lack the motivation to produce completed products to meet the demand, then you face a problem leading to disastrous consequences. The number of scenarios is extreme but you get the general picture. Your employees are your greatest asset and no matter how efficient your technology and equipment may be, it is no match for the effectiveness and efficiency of your staff.
