2  London, the capital of UK, is one of the greatest cities in the world.  It is 2,000 years old.  Its area is 610 square miles.  More than 8 million people live in London.

3 The Thames River  London is situated on river Thames

4 The City of London

5  City of London is one square mile.  It is the world’s financial and commercial centre.

6 Tower of London

7 The Tower of London  It served as a palace, a fortress and a prison.  Kings and queens lived there.  It is a museum of arms now.

8 Tower Bridge

9  Is one of the biggest tourist’s attractions.

10 St. Paul’s Cathedral

11  It is the biggest English church.  The present St Paul's Cathedral was designed by Christopher Wren and the building was eventually completed in 1710.

12 The Stock Exchange  The great financial institution.  It is the heart of the City.

17  There are multi-storey blocks of offices and some of the highest blocks of flats in Europe, as well as shops and restaurants.

19  It is the central square of London.  It is one of the most famous squares in the world.  To the right of the square there is the National Gallery.

20 Buckingham Palace

21  It is the residence of the Queen.  It was built in 1761.  The Royal standard is flown and the ceremony of changing of the guard takes place daily.

22 Oxford Street  It is one of the most famous shopping districts in London.  It is one mile long.  There are many shops and department stores there.

23 Piccadilly Circus  It is the heart of London’s West End.  It is the centre of London’s theatres, shining with lights and advertisements.

24 The Houses of Parliament

25 The Houses of Parliament Westminster Palace  It is the seat of the British government.  In one of its towers there is a famous Big Ben, the largest clock of England.  Big Ben is a real bell which strikes every quarter of an hour.

26  There are many places of interest in London and this city is well worth visiting.
