2 James 4:1-10 Be Miserable and Mourn and Weep

3 Hostility’s source is a worldly heart. How come there is carnality in the lives of Christians? Temptations come from each person’s own enticing lusts (James 1:14). Sins enumerated are the result of an unhealthy heart (James 4:1-3). Christians who nourish friendship with worldliness commit spiritual adultery (4:4).

4 A return to God necessitates humility. Divine favor is bestowed upon those who humble themselves to God (James 4:6). Proverbs 3:34; Psalm 138:6 1 Peter 5:5-7 Godly humility chooses to arrange oneself, his relationships and his circumstances under God’s authority (4:7).

5 Closely walking with God demands an honest and contrite view of ourselves. God wants you to approach Him in worship, in prayer, in being a living sacrifice. Doublemindedness is unacceptable. Be miserable, weep and mourn! Our own wretchedness must be seen and dealt with (cf. Romans 3:16; 7:24). Repentance does not truly occur without godly sorrow (cf. 2 Corinthians 7:10). Spiritual bankruptcy is our own fault. Matthew 5:4; Luke 6:20-21, 25
