Why Data Driven Instruction? Processes involved can help teachers align content to standards. Information can help teachers identify best instructional strategies. Information can help teachers determine areas for instructional emphasis. Proven to improve student performance!

Commit to Using Data Without a district wide commitment, little district-wide improvement will result! Create a Data Driven Decision-Making Culture Using Data means making assessments based on well constructed and aligned indicators

Step 2: Training We use are beginning the process of “Align, Assess, Achieve” from http://qualityinstruction.org/ http://qualityinstruction.org/ Different areas of the school are in different levels of implementation.

Spend Your Time Aligning Assess for Mastery and Retention Frequent and Fast Data that is Useful Rethink the way you teach Keys to Effective Diagnostic Assessments

If your content is not aligned you are wasting your time! We developed “I can” statements to align instruction with standards. Know the relative weight of the standards being taught and tested. Spend Your Time Aligning

Make the Data Useful

Needs a day of tutoring Needs a tutor every day Ready for a challenge

Make the Data Useful Re-Teach! Replicate!

Using Moodle We started with state testing banks – We added all OAT and OGT tests to our Moodle test bank. Teachers can create tests to assess student progress and levels of comprehension. Teachers can pretest to familiarize students with what to expect.

Test Banks can be shared Across the Moodle Site. To other Moodle Sites. Easy to setup with “instant” grading. Great way to get formative assessment data during rotations.

Manually tracking and Gradebook integration. Normal grades can be given in conjunction with indicator grades. Teachers can easily see if they have assessed against all identified indicators. Areas of need can be seen.

A New Look at Gradebooks We use Moodle Assignments in K-4 to track indicator progress throughout the year. Moodle indicators (called outcomes in Moodle by default) are used to create custom Gradecards. http://moodle.nationaltrail.k12.oh.us
