3 The London Eye (Millennium Wheel) is 135 metres high. It is the biggest observation wheel in Europe.

4 The London Eye is located on the South Bank of the River Thames.

5 The wheel was designed by architects David Marks, Julia Barfield, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Steven Chilton and Nic Bailey,

6 It was completed in 1999 and opened by British Prime Minister Tony Blair on December 31, 1999 but it was opened to public just in March 2000 because of some technical problems.

8 It is operated by Merlin Entertainments but sponsored by British Airways.

9 The London Eye has become the most popular paid visitor attraction in the UK, visited by over 3.5 million people a year.

10 It’s not easy to get a ticket for a ride. You have to stand in a turn or even book tickets beforehand.

12 One ride takes about 30 minutes (the rotation speed is 26 centimetres per second).
