4 4 The Guard and Reserve Augment Active Forces. Train at a minimum of 39 days per year (12 weekends plus 15 days Annual Training). Members meet the same qualifications and attend the same training as Active Duty counterparts. Have been involved in every conflict from December 13, 1636 (Massachusetts Bay colony) to current Global War on Terrorism. Costs a fraction of Active Component. Augment Active Forces. ESGR’s GOAL is to support America’s Employers who share their employees with the Department of Defense to ensure our National Security. Assist Veterans to reach employment goals. 14 14 Committee Members serve as active, functioning volunteers, representing the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. 10 U.S.C 1588 – Gives the Secretary of Defense the authority to accept certain voluntary services, including support of the ESGR programs. 15 15 10 U.S.C 1588 requires DoD to: Supervise Volunteers as any other Employee. Ensure volunteers are qualified to perform work assigned. Avoid placing volunteers in policy-making positions (this does not prevent volunteers from providing recommendations).
