You give a compliment when you say something good, but offer criticism when you make an unfavorable remark. If something is unique, it is the only one, but something ordinary is common. If something is flimsy, it is frail, but if it is substantial, it is solid. Allow is the opposite of prohibit. Fatigue is weariness, and vigor is strength. *Prohibit means forbid.Frail means weak. Frisky means “lively,” but sluggish means “slow.” Permanent means “lasting.” If something is tiresome, it’s boring; if it holds your attention, it’s interesting. Landforms An isthmus is a narrow strip of land that connects two large areas of land. A peninsula is an area of land that is surrounded by water on three sides. A delta is a piece of land shaped like a triangle that is formed when a river splits into smaller rivers before it flows into an ocean. An oasis is a fertile place in a desert where there are water, trees, and other plants. A branch of river is a tributary. A valley is the land that lies between mountains or hills. A gorge is a deep, narrow valley that often has a stream running through it. A plateau is a large area of high, flat land. A chain of islands is called an archipelago. A strait is a narrow channel that connects two larger bodies of water.
