1 Ear's By: Pertrise Harris

2 Parts Of The Ear There are 3 major parts of the ear. These are the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear.

3 The Outer Ear Is called the Pinna or the Auricle.
Its job is to collect sounds. Connects to the ear canal. The ear canal is where wax is produced. Earwax protects the canal, it has chemicals that fight off infections that could hurt the skin inside the ear canal. It also collects dirt to help keep the ear canal clean

4 The Middle Ear Main job is to take the sound waves and turn them into vibrations. This is where the eardrum is located. The eardrum is a thin piece of skin stretched tight like a drum. The eardrum separates the middle ear from the outer ear by the Ossicles. The Ossicles is made up of the 3 smallest bones in your body.

5 The Middle Ear These bones are the Malleus meaning hammer, the Incus, and the Stapes. When the ear drum vibrates it causes the 3 bones to help move sound into the inner ear.

6 The Inner Ear When sound comes into the inner ear as vibrations it enters the cochlea (a small tube in the inner ear) Fills with liquid that make motions like waves. Covered with cells which are covered with tiny hairs that create nerve signals that the brain understands.

7 Hearing Loss The 3 different types of hearing loss are: Conductive hearing loss, Sensorineural hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss.

8 Conductive Hearing Loss
Typically the result of obstructions in the outer or middle ear which prevents sound from entering the middle ear. Sound may be faint or distorted. Sometimes both. This can be treated with medically or surgically.

9 Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Occurs when the inner ear nerves are damaged and don’t properly transmit sound signals to the brain. The most common type of hearing loss

10 Mixed Hearing Loss This is a mix between both.
The nerves are damaged and don’t properly transmit sound signals to the brain. Obstructions in the outer or middle ear which prevents sound from entering the middle ear. Sound may be faint or distorted

11 Causes of Hearing Loss Illnesses Drugs that are toxic to hearing
Hearing loss that runs in the family (genetic or hereditary) Aging Head trauma Malformation of the inner ear Exposure to loud noise Fluid in the middle ear from colds Ear infection  Allergies Perforated eardrum Benign tumors Impacted earwax Infection in the ear canal Presence of a foreign body Absence or malformation of the outer ear, ear canal, or middle ear

12 What is a Hearing Aid? An electronic device that goes on or in the ear and selectively amplify and process sounds. Digital hearing aids make incoming signals are converted into a series of numbers, which is then processed using mathematical equations.

13 Fun Fact Beethoven was believed to have been poised that’s what people believed made him go death.
