New Recycling and Waste Collection Service Starting 4 th July 2016

Main objectives for new service Make the system simpler– but high quality service. To reduce costs for residents – focus on recycling and composting as it is cheaper than disposing of waste through incineration or landfill. Achieve at least 55 per cent of waste by 2020 – Currently Councils have a statutory duty to recycle. Collect four separate streams of materials for recycling – a requirement for Councils under European Union law.

Single Pass Recycling / Food Vehicle

Why are we not getting a bin for recycling? When recycling is collected in a bin between 10% to 20% of the recycling can’t be recycled because it is contaminated. How much is the change costing? This change will save money: about £500,000 per year, bringing the cost per household down about 20p per week to 92p. Will my collection day change? It is very possible that your collection day will change, every household will receive a service booklet including a new calendar in June. Will my bins be collected on the same day as my recycling? Yes - your recycling, food and garden waste will be collected one week and your recycling, food and general waste will be collected on the same day the following week. Will there be a lid to stop the plastic bottles blowing out? We will be providing every household a green box, red box and lid in June. Questions?

Will moving to boxes take up more space than bags? No – as the boxes stack easily on top of each other, and as recycling will be collected weekly you will not need to store so much. Can I have additional boxes or lids? We are happy to provide additional blue, green or red boxes and lids for recycling, however as recycling will be collected weekly this will reduce how much you will need to store. Does it matter if the paper and other things get damp, if the boxes are stored outside? It is fine if the recycling gets damp so the material can be stored outside Can I put our large cardboard boxes? We will continue to take additional cardboard, however we do ask you break/cut down the cardboard if possible. More Questions?
