2 DID  People lose contact with their consciousness (or portions of their consciousness) or memory, resulting in disruptions of their sense of identity  Co-existence in one person of two or more largely complete and usually very different personalities

3 DID  Goes far beyond “different roles”  Each person has different mannerisms, names, traits  Personalities are often unaware of each other  Much more diagnosed since the 1980’s, more cases or helped along?

4 CAUSES  Intentional Role-Playing- making up for personal failings  Some therapists may even help create  Sexual Abuse- severe emotional trauma in childhood

5 Dissociative Fugue  People lose their memory for their entire lives along with their sense of personal identity  Remember implicit tasks like drive a car and how to do math
