Isaac Bashevis Singer Born: around 1902-1904 Died: July 24 th, 1991 Born in Radzymin, Poland His family moved to Warsaw, Poland when Singer was four.

Singer continued… Both Grandfathers were Rabbis He also was groomed for Hasidism Decided to be a writer instead After completing seminary studies, he worked as a journalist for the Yiddish press in many parts of Poland

Bashevis Singer Father was a Rabbi Mother, Bathsheba, was the daughter of a Rabbi Brother, Israel Joseph, was a well- known Yiddish writer Sister, Esther Kreitman, was also a writer

First Works The Family Moskat written in 1950- was based on Singer’s family. It translated the reality of an orthodox Jewish home into reality. “Satan in Goray” and “The Dybbuk and the Golem” written in 1955- treat the superstition and foolishness of eastern European peasants.
