3. History The history of Florida is traced back to when the very first Native Americans began to inhabit the peninsula, possibly as early as 14,000 years ago. But It begins with the Europeans traveling to and exploring Florida in 1513. Paleo-Indians entered what is now the state of Florida about 14,000 years ago. (The Florida peninsula had a land mass twice of it currently is today, and it’s climate was much drier than it is today.) Excavations at an ancient stone quarry found stones showing signs of very extensive wear from deposits below holding Paleo-Indian artifacts, which were dated to be over 26,000 years old. As glaciers started to disappear, the climate of the state got wetter and warmer. As archeologists and other explorers came to Florida, the Paleo- Indian culture was replaced by the Early Archaic culture. As more and more people traveled there, Florida became what we know it as today.

4. Geography Here is some information about Florida’s Geography. Florida is 500 miles long and 160 miles wide (At it’s widest point) Florida covers 65,758 square miles. The highest point in Florida is Britton Hill, at 345 feet above sea level. (Only two hundred feet above the normal 145 feet above sea level.) Florida’s average climate is wet and hot, and very humid. The highest temperature recorded in Florida is 109 degrees, Fahrenheit. This record high was recorded on June 29, 1931 at Monticello. 5. Famous Places Florida is widely known for it’s white sandy beaches and other tourist attractions. Some major tourist attractions are Miami Beach, Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale on the east coast. Also, the entire Orlando area, most specifically Walt Disney World (Florida’s most popular tourist attraction). A lot of visitors are also there for the NASA Kenedy Space Center’s Spaceport USA. The warm weather makes for great outdoor activities, parks, and attractions.
