1 Presentation of Curricula THE SCHOOL OF ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING OF APPLIED STUDIES DIGITAL BROADCASTING AND BROADBAND TECHNOLOGIES DBBT project meeting, VISER, Belgrade 23-24 May 2016

2 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies The project goal is implementation of the modern master study programme that enable education of the specialists in the field of Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technology which study profile is in line with the needs of labour market and upcoming transfer from Analogue to Digital Broadcasting in regional partner countries. The graduated students would be capable to apply acquired knowledge in the business in order to speed up digitising of broadcast services. Graduated students will also be capable to implement and maintain modern and improve existing Broadcast and Broadband Communication Systems. In this way, the long-term sustainability would be achieved. In order to students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge to be immediately applied in the business, the laboratory with appropriate hardware and software equipment for analysis and design of broadcasting and broadband systems with digital multimedia HDTV studio and environment for implementation of digital services would be created. The education of the experts would improve existing state in the area of digital technologies (particularly in digitising of Radio and TV and improving of multimedia broadband services) in WB countries in accordance with the principles of EU best practice. The mentioned project objectives would have positive impact on the current situation in the field of digital communications technologies in Kosovo*, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia through the mandatory digitisation of broadcast services according to standards established by competent international organizations and adopted also by the EU. The development of digital communications technologies would be followed by activation of other business entities in the Western Balkans. The activities graduated students will be able to do are: development of the multimedia applications on smart phones and tablets, applications for smart TV, modelling of IP and wireless networks and wave propagation, etc.

5 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Media recording and presentation* Objectives: Students should learn the basics of audio and video signals, signal path and fundamental principles of audio and video systems. Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will know the organization and functioning of different TV systems, tasks that electrical engineers can have in the audio and video signals processing and knowledge of the actual software for audio and video signals processing. Digital communication systems Objectives: The course aims to develop deeper understanding of digital modulation and coding theory. Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain the principles of digital communication systems and components, explain information theory, source coding, and data compression, explain the BPSK, QPSK, and QAM modulation as well as multicarrier modulation techniques. Students will gain knowledge in channel coding including linear block codes and convolutional codes. * Mandatory

6 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Audio and Video Compression Objectives: To provide knowledge in principles of audio and video compression and the appropriate standards for the compression. To provide students with the ability to practically implement the compression of audio and video signals using the latest standards. Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students will be familiar with the principles of audio and video compression using a basic and the state-of-the-art compression standards, and their practical applications in communication systems. Audio production Objectives: Students should learn how to use the recording equipment in the process of audio production for different media. Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will know how to use different types of microphones, mixers and other audio equipment so that they can record and mix audio programs for different media.

7 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Digital Radio and TV standards* Objectives: Introduction to the standards used in digital television and radio, primarily, the standards that are used in broadcasting/broadband technologies and services. Outcomes: After completing the course, students will be able to properly use the services and devices in broadcasting/broadband field. Wireless and Mobile Communication Systems Objectives: The course aim is to broaden or deepen the knowledge in wireless systems. Students will develop deeper understanding of 2G, 3G and 4G mobile and wireless networks. Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain wireless networking trends, key wireless physical layer concepts, wireless local area networks, WiMAX, wireless cellular networks: 1G and 2G, 2.5G, 3G, and 4G, Mobile IP, wireless sensor networks. * Mandatory

8 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum IP technologies Objectives: The aim of this course is to develop understanding of IP technology and its use in modern communication networks. Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to explain TCP/IP protocol stack architecture, Internet addressing, characteristics of IP protocol, ARP and ICMP protocols, routing in IP networks, transport layer protocols UDP and TCP, IP/MPLS networks, IP services and QoS. Digital audio and video processing Objectives: Students should learn fundamental knowledge of different softwares for recording, mixing and editing different audio and video materials. Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will know how to record, mix and edit different audio and video materials and to incorporate those into different multimedia contents.

9 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Visual production (TV Production) Objectives: The introduction to the process of a studio and field TV production technologies and equipment that is used. Outcomes: At the end of this course, students will know the tasks of an engineer in the TV studio, and how to work with devices that are used in the studio and field TV production.

10 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Broadcasting Systems and Technologies* Objectives: Getting to know the elements of a digital TV and radio signals broadcasting in any format. Outcomes: After completing the course, students will be able to properly use the devices for digital broadcasting of TV and radio signals in any format. Multimedia transmission over IP networks Objectives: Gaining knowledge about the technologies and services that are used for the distribution of multimedia (audio and video) content over IP networks. Outcomes: After completing the course, students will be able to properly use the devices and services for the distribution of audio and video signals over IP networks. * Mandatory

11 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Broadband Telecommunication Services and Technologies Objectives: To provide knowledge in principles of broadband communication services and technologies in the field of Ethernet-based broadband, optical broadband and wireless broadband networks, especially for broadband audio and video technologies (Cable Television - CATV, Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV - HbbTV). Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students will understand principles of broadband technologies, be able to exploit the capabilities of next-generation networks and leverage communication technologies for audio and video convergence. Satellite and Optical Communication Systems and Standards Objectives: To provide knowledge in principles of the optical and satellite communications systems, links and standards. To introduce students to the optical and satellite system design, control and maintenance. Outcomes: At the end of the course students will be able to participate in the optical and satellite communication networks installation and maintenance.

12 Digital Broadcasting and Broadband Technologies Master studies– Curriculum Multimedia production and postproduction Objectives: During this course students should learn different softwares for audio, video, graphics, animation, editing, spatial effects and how to use those to express their individual visual creativity. Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will know how to realize multimedia tasks that consider very high aesthetic professional standards in the area of audio and visual arts, opening credits, end credits, video spots and short movies containing different video effects. Interactive multimedia Objectives: During this course students should learn more about different concepts of creating multimedia interactive contents and computer animation and implementation of that knowledge in individual or team professional conditions. Outcomes: At the end of the course, students will know how to realize multimedia tasks that consider very high aesthetic professional standards in the area of computer graphics.
