A black smith is one particular craft in the village in which a person would have to specialize. To specialize is to become skilled at one kind of job. 8 A Puritan Village Another Building that would be found near the common was the school. Puritans schools were some of the first schools founded, in fact several still are around today including Harvard which was founded in 1636. Harvard was the first collage in the Colonies The meetinghouse was at the center of the village life because that was where church services were held. This was also where they conducted town meetings.

It was found in the middle of the room and was used to cook, bake and keep the home warm. o Women and girls spent many hours preparing the food for the rest of the family. o They churned cream in to butter, dried and preserved fruits, pickled cabbages and other veggies. o The women and girls also made all the clothing for the family Men and boys The men and boys spent the majority of their days working in the fields. They were able to grow crops such as, corn, rye, barley, and wheat, pumpkins and squash. They learn their farming techniques from the Wampanoag Indians.
