2 Module Aims to support the learner in identifying and reviewing how organisations are structured and managed to facilitate exploration of the learners’ immediate and wider work context in order to promote professional developmentObjectives B By the end of this session you will be able to: describe a range of different organisational structures Reflect on the structure of your own organisation

3 Organisational structure Organisations need an internal structure for a variety of reasons including coordination of staff and tasks, efficiency, effectiveness and ease of communications

4 Theories of organisational structure are constantly emerging  Mintzberg.H (1983) wrote extensively and described structures as the ways organisations divides it labour into distinct tasks and achieves coordination.  Handy. C (1978) suggested that culture was created through organisation structure  Senge(1994) wrote that structure was an important aspect but often overlooked  Mabey, Salaman and Storey(2001) linked the importance of roles, relationships, human resource management and organisational structure Organisational Structures
