Tundra Biome By Brylie Holdbrook and Brooklyn Beckstead

2 The animals in the tundra biome
Many animals live in the tundra biome some of these animals are Caribou, Ermine, water birds, mosquitoes, polar bears, arctic fox, White wolves, grizzly bears, gray falcons, bald eagles, bumble bees, squirrels, Norway lemmings, and voles.

3 Facts about the tundra .The largest animal that lives in the tundra biome is the polar bear. They thrive on fatty meats to give them enough energy to live through the harsh winters. There are two types of tundra - arctic tundra and alpine tundra. The arctic tundra is located within the Arctic Circle while the alpine tundra is the area high in the mountains above trees. The plants that grow in the tundra biome often grow in clusters to help protect themselves from the severe winter winds.

4 The pika One of the animals found in the tundra is a pika. A pika is a hamster type animal. It is 20cm long and is a cute, little, white, fuzzy tan animal. The pika eats grass and herbs, therefore it is a herbivore. Many carnivores feed upon the pika. It survives by living in holes in the ground and storing grass, flowers, and herbs. This animal can also be found in grassland biome. It is mostly found in the tundras in North America.

5 The plants in the tundra biome
There are many plants in the Tundra biome some of these plants include the Arctic poppy, Bearberry, Arctic moss, Caribou moss, Diamond leaf willow, Labrador Tea, Pasque flower, Tufted saxifrage.

6 The climate in the tundra biome
Tundras are among Earth's coldest, harshest biomes. Tundra ecosystems are treeless regions found in the Arctic and on the tops of mountains, where the climate is cold and windy and rainfall is scant. Tundra lands are snow-covered for much of the year, until summer brings a burst of wildflowers.

10 The latitude in the tundra biome
The latitude range for the tundra is from the arctic circle to 60° to 70° latitude North. Parts of Alaska and northern Canada contains tundra biome and climates. Tundra climate can also be found in northern Europe and Russia.

12 The temperature in the tundra
In fact, the growing season ranges only from 50 to 60 days, and the yearly precipitation (Which includes melting snow) is 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 inches). During the winter season, the average temperature is -34° C (-30° F), and during the summer season, the temperature is 3-12° C (37-54° F), which is when the most wildlife can be seen. The yearly precipitation is mere The Arctic tundra, where the average temperature is 10 to 20. degrees Fahrenheit(-12 to -6 degrees Celsius), supports a variety of animal species, including Arctic foxes, polar bears, gray wolves, caribou, snow geese and musk-oxen. The summer growing season is just 50 to 60 days, when the sun shines 24 hours a day

13 Aquatic plant Aquatic plants are plants that have adapted to living in aquatic environments (saltwater or freshwater). They are also referred to as hydrophytes or macrophytes. These plants require special adaptations for living submerged in water, or at the water's surface.

14 The Arctic poppy The Arctic poppy (Papaver laestadianum) is a rare, endemic, perennial plant species found only in the harsh, Arctic conditions of the northernmost parts of Scandinavia. The solitary flower head consists of four vibrant yellow petals, supported by an erect stem which is long and narrow and has thick, spreading black hairs. Within the cup-shaped flower are five stigma protruding from a flat disk (1) (2). The leaves growing in a dense rosette around the base of the stem are lance-shaped and pinnate. The flowering stems of the Arctic poppy are around ten centimetres long ...

15 The location in the tundra biome
The tundra is located at the top of the world, near the North Pole. This enormous biome, extremely uniform in appearance, covers a fifth of the earth's surface. The most distinctive characteristic of tundra soil is its permafrost, a permanently frozen layer of ground.

16 Polar bear The polar bear or the sea/ice bear are the world's largest land predators. They can be found in the Arctic, the U.S. (Alaska), Canada, Russia, Denmark (Greenland), and Norway. Each of these countries either banned hunting or established rules for how many polar bears could be hunted within its own boundaries. These rules help keep polar bear populations stable. Today, 25,000 to 40,000 polar bears roam the Arctic.

17 Gray falcons What you staring at
No What you staring at The Peregrine Falcon is a raptor, or bird of prey. Adults have blue-gray wings, dark brown backs, a buff colored underside with brown spots, and white faces with a black tear stripe on their cheeks. They have a hooked beaks and strong talons. Their name comes from the Latin word peregrinus, which means "to wander." They are commonly referred to as the Duck Hawk. Peregrine falcons are the fastest-flying birds in the world – they are able to dive at 200 miles per hour.

18 Bearberry is an evergreen plant that belongs to the heather family
Bearberry is an evergreen plant that belongs to the heather family. It can be found in Canada, USA, Europe and Asia. Bearberry is adapted to long periods of cold weather and it easily thrives tundra. Bearberry grows on dry, poor, usually sandy soils, exposed to direct sunlight. It can be found in the mountains, shorelines, prairies, dunes and rocky areas. Cultivars of bearberry that produce glossy leaves, showy flowers and numerous fruit are cultivated in ornamental purposes. Non-flowering varieties of bearberry are cultivated in medical purposes. bearberry

19 Squirrels communicate with each other through various vocalisations and scent marking. They also use their tails as a signalling device, twitching it when uneasy to alert other squirrels of potential dange squirrels

20 Labrador Tea who was on the list
The Labrador tea plant grows to be 4 to 5 feet. It will grow up-straight in the southern latitudes of the tundra, but in the colder northern latitudes it will creep over the ground forming a carpet. It has woolly branches with narrow 1 to 2 inch leaves which are smooth on the upper side, with rusty hairs underneath. They droop slightly and edges are rolled under, and are a leathery green in color. At the ends of the branches are tiny clusters of white flowers with protruding stamen, which bloom in June and July.
