Public and Private schools  Public school  Elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools are all types of public schools.  Attending a public school is free, but it is paid by tax dollars.  California state sets the standers, most are traditional.  All teachers must be certified.  The school relies on money from federal and state government.  Teachers must follow the state guidelines on what to teach, how to teach, and how to evaluate students.  No discrimination!  Private school  The money comes from parents, grants, donations, and endowments.  Its not regulated by state standards.  Private schools fundraise for money.  It can be or may not be an accredited private school.  Accreditation insures that the school meets regional or national standards set by a group of piers.  It also insures that the school’s administration and academic programs undergo review by an outside group at least once every few years.  The tuition average is $19,100 or more.  Teachers may not be certified.  Student to teacher ratio is low.

3. The first private school This is the first private school The first private schools were established by the religious missionaries of the Roman Catholic Church in Florida and Louisiana. By all accounts education in the northeastern colonies was better organized in the 18th century than its counterpart.

4. The first public school in California This is the monument of the first public school in California. It is located in san Francisco. It opened in 1848.

5. Educating for the Future  California’s first constitution also set up a state university system.  Today, California has the largest system of colleges and universities in the United States. Public colleges and universities receive some money from the state government. However, students must also pay to attend. Several state and national programs help students who cannot pay the full cost.  California’s university system includes 9 branches of the university of California and 22 campuses of California state University. Besides large universities, California also has many community colleges, which offer two- year programs.  The purpose of California’s educational system is to prepare students for the future.

Robert Semple “Robert Semple said, “ if the people are to govern themselves… they must be educated; they must educate their children.’’ “ over one fourth of the population of the state was enrolled in various branches of the school system during 1924. no other state can boast of the enrollment of so large a proportion of it’s population.” He was born on February 26,1777. He was born in Boston M.A. Robert Semple was a delegate from Sonoma County in the first constitutional convention of California in 1849. Robert Semple wants a regulated system of education. His year of death was June 19, 1816.
