5. Why? Why have a plantation in Ulster? I will be rich!! The plantation was an attempt by King James to colonise Ireland by taking out Irish citizens. He thought it would stop all threats of a ‘rebellion’. It was not free, it was very expensive! The King thought that the Irish and the Spanish would team together. Now that he was in possession of the six counties he could choose who would receive them. He thought his plan was unbeatable! He thought Ulster would become richer, because the King would make more money from more taxes from the English and Scottish settlers.
