11 Maternal Health Key Findings 96% of women received antenatal care from a skilled provider (doctor, nurse, or midwife) at least once. 50% of women deliver in a health facility; 48% deliver at home. 51% of women were assisted at birth by a skilled provider. Assistance by a skilled provider during antenatal care and delivery has slightly increased since 2004-05.

19 Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) In the 2 weeks before the survey, 4% of children under age 5 were ill with cough and rapid breathing, symptoms of ARI.

20 Diarrhoea 15% of children under age five had diarrhoea in the 2 weeks before the survey; 2% had bloody diarrhoea. 53% of children with diarrhoea were taken to a health facility or received treatment from a health provider.

22 Child Health Key Findings 75% of children have all the recommended immunisations. 4% of children under five had symptoms of ARI in the 2 weeks before the survey. 15% of children had diarrhoea in the 2 weeks before the survey. Of these, 53% of children were taken to a health facility or provider. 63% were given ORT, RHF, or increased fluids. 17% did not receive any treatment.

30 Maternal Mortality Maternal mortality includes all deaths that occur to women during pregnancy, during birth, and up to 2 months after birth or the end of the pregnancy.

31 Maternal Mortality Maternal mortality ratio (MMR) for the 10-year period before the survey = 454 (deaths per 100,000 births) [95% Confidence Interval ranges from 353 to 556 deaths per 100,000 births]

32 Mortality Key Findings Childhood mortality has decreased over the past 15 years. Current infant mortality rate is 51 deaths per 1,000 live births and under-five mortality rate is 81 deaths per 1,000 live births. Under-five mortality ranges by zone, from 58 in the Northern zone to 109 in the Lake zone. Maternal mortality ratio is 454 deaths per 100,000 live births [95% Confidence Interval ranges from 353 to 556 deaths per 100,000 births].
