Loomis – 05/04/2006 3 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Agenda Goal: Bring together expert users and developers to decide development roadmap and plan Quattor usage. Loomis – 05/04/2006 5 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Quattor Usage Sites using Quattor –Production: 39 (18 instances) –Testing: 3 –European sites except ihep.ac.cn and barc.in –All but one (Andago) closely related to HEP Nodes: >6431 –3821 at CERN-CC –>2610 outside CERN-CC Quattor used for: –Grid services: 10 instances –Local services: 4 –Both: 4

Loomis – 05/04/2006 6 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Issues Identified by sites: –Improved organization of templates (namespaces) –LCG template complexity –Template/profile browsing tools (cmd. line & GUI) –Faster pan compiler Persistent issues: –Significant learning curve –Insufficient documentation

Loomis – 05/04/2006 7 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Near-term Development CDB –Add namespace and ACL capabilities SCDB –Unify/simplify structure for sites using SCDB AII –Small improvements to simplify installations LEMON –Much interest in including this at many sites

8 Quattor Workshop Summary – C. Loomis – 05/04/2006 8 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Near-term Development Pan compiler –Functional improvements, then tackle performance NCM components –Better information on what is available –Better effort to make generic components

Loomis – 05/04/2006 9 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 LCG Configuration YAIM-based configuration –Single Quattor component to interface to YAIM –Good when using standard ‘machine-types’ QWG configuration –“Fully” Quattor based installation –Emphasis on flexibility, service orientation –Complex, significant effort to maintain Several sites switching from QWG to YAIM-based configuration. Will evaluate strengths and weaknesses of both.

Loomis – 05/04/2006 10 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Roadmap New Quattor release (1.2) in 2 weeks: –Improvements in all services –New pan compiler functionality –Support for namespaces in CDB Simplify the Quattor configuration –Namespaces and new pan functionality will help Improve documentation –Use of wikis should help develop and maintain documentation

Loomis – 05/04/2006 11 Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI-508833 Roadmap Quattor tutorial: –Aim to have one in conjunction with Tier 2 workshop Quattor workshop: –Viewed by all as being very useful –Next workshop in first part of October 2006 –Two days of meetings, spread over three days –Keep large amount of discussion time
