Ta’limi Board (KZN)

INTRODUCTIO N 1. Virtues of teaching Qur-aan 2. Qur-aan is the most important subject 3. Strive be an excellent Qur- aan Muallim/ah

To teach children how to read the Qur-aan correctly with tajweed. Not necessary to make them into Qari Saahib’s. Objective

The Teacher Come early to class. Be in the state of wudhu. (or Tayammum for ladies). Be confident of your own reading. Prepare your Qur’aan lesson. Be vigilant in the class. Carry a pen/pencil to class. Mark the mistakes in pencil. Mark the date in the margin.

The Pupil Ensure the pupils have wudhu. Ensure they handle the Qur-aan Shareef with respect. They must have learnt their Qaidah Part One and Two very well. Yassarnal Qur-aan Part Two must be done at least three times (revision). Make sure they are paying attention in the class. Make sure that their tajweed rules are marked in their Qur-aan sabaq (lesson).

GROUPS not I-n-d-i-v-i-d-u-a- l-s Have children in groups. DO NOT TEACH CHILDREN QUR-AAN INDIVIDUALLY. Strictly follow the syllabus chalked out for the grade that you are teaching.

Important factors in Qur-aan recitation 1.Proper recitation of ta’wwuz and tasmiyyah 2.Makhaarij (Proper pronunciation of Letters) 3.Open Letters 4.Close Letters 5.Laws of Waqf 6.Fluency

1. Makhaarij. Place from which a letter must be pronounced 2. Each letter must be pronounced from its correct Makhraj 3. Pupils confuse the Makhaarij of some letters for e.g. ح & ﻫ ﻕ & ﻙ 4. Letters to be pronounced correctly are called Special letters 5. They must not be confused with similar sounding letters 6. If a letter is pronounced incorrectly it will change the meaning of the word. For e.g. ﺭﺣﻴﻢ means “most merciful” ﺭﻫﻴﻢ means “a slight drizzle” قلب means “heart” كلب means “dog”

SIMILAR LETTERS SPECIAL LETTERS ﺱ ﺹ ﺙ ﻫح ز ﻅ ﺫ ﺩﺽ ﺕﻁ ء ﺍﻉ ﺥﻍ ﻙﻕ

UNDERLINE SPECIAL LETTERS

2. تُوْبُوْا زِلْزَالَهَا نَفّٰثٰتِ الٰفِهِمْ 3. Close Letters- Mark with dot يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ اَيْدِيْهِمْ

4.Laws of Waqf حَمِيْمًا = حَمِيْمَا غَاشِيَةْ = غَاشِيَةٍ 5.Fluency:Repetition results in fluency

TEACHING A NEW LESSON Prepare your lesson before coming to class Seat the pupils around you Make sure everyone knows where the sabaq (lesson) is Write down the entire lesson on the board (i.e. Grade. 1-4) MARK ALL TAJWEED RULES Special letters, open & close letters, Ghunnas, madds, qalqala, etc.

Mark with small circle (o) on top

Teach Pupils how to mark their lessons. Use the five para Qur-aan for grade 4 & 5. Read out the entire lesson to the class word by word and then line by line. This must be done three times with pupils reciting after you. Make one pupil recite the new sabaq out aloud correcting his/her mistakes. Have a new pupil to recite each day.

Each pupil must be tested separately the complete sabaq. When testing a learner, ensure that they apply all the rules which were marked the previous day. After testing the learners, the teacher can now teach the new lesson. Testing

Introduce a system of sabaq, sabaq dhor and dhor for Qur-aan revision. [as done in the hifz classes] After teaching the new lesson test the pupils the last three days’ lessons. Focus on the weak pupils. Start off a system of dhor (revision) from the beginning of the Qur-aan. [2 pages a day].

Insist that pupils learn their lesson at least 5 times before coming to you and 5 times after you’ve taught them the new lesson. Remember: There is only one way to improve fluency, and that is with repetition. Note: The key is quality and not quantity.

ASSESSM ENT 1. Each pupil must be assessed separately. 2. Each pupils weakness must be noted. 3. Ask your supervisor to conduct an assessment for weaknesses.

If you have problems… 1. Perform two rakaats of Salaah and beg Allah Ta’ala to help you. 2. Give some Sadaqah. 3. Make mashwarah with senior experienced teachers.

Teaching Qur-aan a great ni’mat bounty from Allah Ta’ala. Teach with sincerity and dedication. Tremendous Rewards in dunya as well as the aakhirat. Make dua for Qabuliyat acceptance
