ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 & ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 Diversity

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 & ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 Properties Comparison  Distinguishing between ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 and ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 is the molecular weight. ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 is a high molecular low pressure polyethylene with a molecular weight approximate 500.000 g/mol, and also called as Alpolen ‐ 500. ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 (ALPOLEN® ‐ 1000) is a high molecular low pressure polyethylene with a molecular weight approximate >3.500.000 g/mol. Fig. 1Properties ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 & Alpolen ‐ UMWH 1000  Polyethylene with a molecular weight of +/-3,5.10 ⁶ with 10,5.10 ⁶ PE UMWH 1000 is more rigid than the high moleculalar weight polyethylene (PE 500) and it is therefore more suitable more suitable for mechanical applications. The friction coefficient is low and machinability is excellent.

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000& ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 Properties Comparison Molecular weight difference affected the properties of ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH, including: density, impact strength, and abrasion resistance (wear resistance) that shown on Fig The properties differences shown ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH1000 advantages over ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500, which include: ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 density (0.92 g/cm 3) is lighter than ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 density (0.95 g/cm 3 ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 more tough 11 times better than ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 in receiving impact force. ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 impact strength: 170 kJ/m 2 ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 impact strength: 15 kJ/m Abrasion resistance (wear resistance) of ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 is 4 times better than ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500. ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 wear resistance rate: 100 % ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 wear resistance rate: 400 % Due significant properties difference (impact strength and wear resistance) ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 can’t replacing ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000, which will affect on usage time.

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 Properties Comparison FEATURES Chemical: high chemical resistance typical of the polyolefins Shock resistance, good even at low temperature High abrasion resistance Low friction coefficient Low specific gravity Easy machinability Colour: Natural

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 Properties Comparison WEAK POINT  Compared to the engineering plastics it has lower thermal and machanical properties: tensile stress, flexural and compressive strength, etc. Compared to high molecular weight PE, it is more rigid and its resistance to continuous shock is therefore lower APPLICATION Food contact: physiologically inert, it is approved for food contact by the most important standards. Thanks to this feature, it is widely used for components in food machinery, pumps for liquid food etc. Chemical: thanks to the high resistance to acids and alkali it is used to produce components in the chemical industry. Mechanical: the low friction coefficient and non hygroscopicity make it suitable for use as a bearing or for mechanical parts with low loads, even when operating in water. The graph shows that the higher the molecular weight is, the higher the shock resistance, but that tensile stress decreases. Red: tensile stress Grey: shock resistance

ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 Properties Comparison Polyethylene with a molecular weight of +/- 500.000 with semi –finished products made of ALPOLEN® 500 we offer you a material which, thanks to its characteristics, quality and price, is the first choice for many applications. Particularly in the food industry and in sports center construction ALPOLEN® 500 does an excellent job with its impact strength and insulating properties-and that at competitive costs. ALPOLEN® complies in full with all applicable regulations for contact with food. In addition to its use as a cutting board, as lining or as impact protection, it is also useful in other applications, for example in machine construction. FEATURES Shock resistance, good even at low temperatures High chemical resistance typical of the polyolefins High abrasion resistance Low friction coefficient Low specific gravity Easy machinability Color:Natural

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 TRIBOLOGY ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 TRIBOLOGY  Many engineering application need a good tribology properties. Tribology is the branch of engineering that concerned with interacting surface in relative motion under applied load. Properties of tribological system are wear and friction.  Wear is the progressive loss of material from surface in relative motion with to one another. The wear rate is influenced by test condition; pressure and velocity, and defined as the rate of height loss in a specific wear environment (sand slurry test, block on ring, thrust washer test, etc). The lower wear rate, the better the resistance to wear.  Friction is the resistance to sliding motion between two surface. It is a dimensionless property ( ɥ ), varying with velocity, pressure, temperature, lubrication, the roughness and nature of the contacting surface.  ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 tribology properties is excellent due its very low wear rate (4 times ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500) and low coefficient of friction (15), and very suited for engineering application in harsh environment including: coal hopper, dump truck, or conveyor. In engineering application that need excellent sliding properties including trybology properties, material that can meet this requirement is only ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000.

ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH Market Condition ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH Market Condition  Since ALPOLEN® ‐ HD molecular weight is below of ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 molecular weight, the properties will be very weak compared with ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000.  Many people thought that ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 or ALPOLEN® ‐ HD strength is only a half of ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 strength, but actually the difference is very significant as explained below: ¾ ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 more tough 11 times than ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500, and 17 times toughness than ALPOLEN® ‐ HD (impact strength: 10 kJ/m2). ¾ ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 wear resistance 4 times better than ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500 and Alpolen ‐ HD This condition worsen by no explanation or education for customer about difference between ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000, ALPOLEN® ‐ HMW 500, and ALPOLEN® ‐ HD by it’s seller or distributor.

 CONVEYOR SYSTEM Many various industry using conveyor system, Conveyer for Beverages that we can find easily ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 application. Sliding properties is the main properties that conveyor system need, including: low coefficient friction (smooth surface), high impact strength (toughness), and low wear rate. Food save material also needed in food industry that using conveyor system. ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 is the right material for this condition, as known ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH is food safe material with good sliding properties and can run in dry condition Conveyor Guider Gears (no need lubrication). By applying ALPOLEN® ‐ UMWH 1000 on conveyor system, it is can assure your production will run smoothly and clean.
