Flashcards, this study guide, the graphic organizer, and the psychologist chart- due the day of the test- Friday, March 11 th ! FRQ on this test- about schizophrenia! Goal(s): Be able to answer questions about the reading as you read. 1)If you weren’t here on Friday, pick up the notes from Friday- your names are not on them in the folder- sorry! 2)Pick up the bell work. 3)Work on the bell work. To Do As You Walk In: Today’s Lesson: 1)Finishing notes from Friday- period 1! 2)Working on the study guide.

3 Bell Work / Agenda/Announcements HW/ Coming up: Those of you who already registered for the AP Exam, come see me once we are done going over this… Psychologist Chart- look at the list of all the psychologists you need to have- due April 8 th (exactly a month from now)! Work on at least five each SCHOOL day if you haven’t been to finish it by when it’s due- April 8 th (the day of our last unit class test)!!! Register for the AP Exam- deadline is March 25 th (11:59pm) but if you sign up by the end of this week you will receive: 10 raffle tickets Sign up by the end of next week: 5 raffle tickets Study Guides (psychological disorders and methods of therapy) will be up today!!! 17 Antianxiety meds  Depress central nervous system activity  Should be used with psychotherapy  Xanax  Valium  Ativan  All GABA agonists  Criticism:  Masks the problem, not a solution

18 Antidepressants  SSRIs: Selective-Serotonin-Reuptake- Inhibitors  Partially block the reabsorption of serotonin  Elevates arousal and mood  Dual-Action Antidepressants  Work by blocking the reabsorption of norepinephrine and serotonin.  Side effects: dry mouth, weight gain, hypertension, or dizzy spells.  For depression, drug therapy is most effective when paired with psychotherapy  These also work for OCD and anxiety  SSRIs  Prozac  Zoloft  Paxil

19 Mood Stabilizers  Lithium- bipolar  Depakote-bipolar (but originally for seizures)  Signs of mild to moderate lithium toxicity:  Mild shakiness, especially in the hands  Thirst  Increased or frequent urination  Diarrhea  Vomiting  Drowsiness  Muscle weakness  Coordination problems  Signs of more severe toxicity include:  Giddiness  Blurred vision  Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)  Severe shakiness  Seizures  Depakote

Register for the AP Exam- deadline is March 25 th (11:59pm) but if you sign up by the end of tomorrow you will receive: 10 raffle tickets Sign up by the end of next week: 5 raffle tickets Goal(s): Assess what you have retained after studying for the test. 1)Place everything that is labeled on the side counter. 2)Take out a separate piece of paper and write your name on it. 3)Take out a scantron that was handed back to you and write your name and today’s date on it.  Come see me if you don’t have one! To Do As You Walk In: Today’s Lesson: 1)Test. 2)Once you finish the FRQ, place it on the side counter and pick up a test copy. 3)Once you are done with the scantron part, place both the scantron and the test copy into two separate piles on the side counter. 4)Nothing to be picked up after the test today.
