Effects of Childhood Obesity Diabetes on the Rise: Experts project that one in three children born in 2000 will develop type 2 diabetes. Economic Impact: Obesity costs the US as much as $147 billion per year in direct costs and lost productivity. Weakened Defense: Department of Defense data shows 27 percent of all young Americans 17 to 24 years of age are unable to join the military.

RESULTS Lending Library – Over 676 classes offered – Over 200 commodities – Over 2,780 hours Keep Austin Playing – ~2,400 attended – 100% of the parents who completed survey’s answered yes they learned something new about physical activity/ fitness at this event – Of these who said they would do something different at home, 32% said they planned to exercise more, eat healthier and make more of an effort to get outdoors and active. – Several others specifically mentioned taking up tennis or doing riding bikes with their kids more, and building obstacle courses at home. Walk With A Doc – 12 Attended – 6 registered for classes OrganWise – “My mom you are giving us too much food; our portions need to be smaller like on the Myplate” – “My sons keep talking about making healthy choices” – “Are you teaching human organs?”
