A Place (Wilson Hall 1st floor) That provides access to information in a manner that is similar to what is available in control rooms at CERN Where members of the LHC community can participate remotely in CMS and LHC activities A Communications Conduit Between CERN and members of the LHC community located in North America (for example, university groups) An Outreach tool Visitors will be able to see current LHC activities Visitors will be able to see how future international projects in particle physics can benefit from active participation in projects at remote locations.

10 CD Strategy Session/Briefing on Collaboration Tools: Sept. 12, 200610 Experience with WebEx Experience with WebEx for work on LHC@FNAL remote operations by our most active user: Suzanne has arranged 17 WebEx meetings in the last 3 months Many of these meetings involved application (or desktop) sharing for live demonstrations of software: Role Based Access Control Shot Data Analysis Sequencer Logbook evaluation task force Control Room Logbook installations Attendance ranges from 2 - 8 people who are logged in to WebEx (many more participants if one counts people in meeting rooms) Suzanne expects to have regular WebEx meetings with CERN to work on LHC software development, and expects to use WebEx while she is at CERN to work on the Control Room Logbook.

11 CD Strategy Session/Briefing on Collaboration Tools: Sept. 12, 200611 Summary To support commissioning and operations of both the LHC accelerator and CMS experiment, we need tools that enable collaborative work. WebEx is one of the tools that has features we consider to be essential: Security Access to screen content distributed across multiple monitors Windows, Mac OS X and Linux are supported Remote control can be supervised and instantly revoked if necessary All WebEx sessions are logged with user information and type of operating system used to access the session Teleconferencing capabilities 24/7/365 technical support
