5. Three parts of the cell theory: 1. All living things are made of cells. 2. Cells are the basic unit of structure and organization in organisms. 3. New cells come from existing cells.

6. 1. Robert Hooke, 1665. He made his own microscope and looked at corks with it. He was the first to call it a cell. 2. Anton van Leeuwenhoek, 1674. He looked at water droplets and mouth swabs and saw living cells first. 3. Matthias Schleiden, 1838. He looked at plants and realized they are all made of cells. 4. Theodor Schwann, 1839. He discovered that animals are all made of cells. 5. Rudolf Virchow, 1855. He was the first to confirm that all cells come from preexisting cells.

7. Follow the numbered instructions on each paper. First, You will create a “hot dog” folded paper with the title on the front. Write the three parts of the cell theory on the inside top flap. Then, you will create 5 “booklets” to be glued on the inside bottom flat (diagram 2) Write the Scientist and date of contribution on the front of each “booklet” Write the contribution of the scientist on the inside of the booklet. Glue the booklets inside by the order of the dates. Decorate as you wish. (Pictures are suggested.)
