6 Early Examples of Urban Naturalism? 1)Pages 47-48, “He hated himself at that moment...” Q: How does this scene show urban naturalism? A: This scene shows how Bigger becomes subservient to his boss’s family. He doesn’t raise his eyes when speaking, and he thinks that “this was the way white folks wanted him to be” (48). The scene illustrates the racial tension, even among whites who are sympathetic to the plight of African-Americans.
