Rest for the rest of us What is Sabbath? So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. Heb. 4:9-11 (ESV)

Sabbath is what you do, not what you don’t do. So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, Heb. 4:9 (ESV) "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Ex. 20:8 (NKJV)

God’s plan is and has always been for restoration and Sabbath is a picture of its completion. Shabbat verb “to cease from labor”

How does God rest? … for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. (Heb 4:10 ESV) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. (Gen 2:1-3 ESV)

1.Completion 2.Reflection 3.Evaluation 4.Resolution How does God rest?

Completion – Are we there yet? Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Psa. 95:1-7a (ESV)

Reflection – Where have we come from? Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work. For forty years I loathed that generation and said, "They are a people who go astray in their heart, and they have not known my ways." Therefore I swore in my wrath, "They shall not enter my rest." Psa. 95:7b-11 (ESV)

The resurrected Christ embodies Sabbath Evaluation – Where are we going? For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. Heb. 4:8-9 (NKJV)

The only way you can miss what God has for you is to give up! Resolution – Making course corrections Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. Heb. 4:11 (ESV)
