3 Lumex Field Applications: Mercury Mine Watershed RI EPA Superfund Site April 5, 2011 Susan Flakus Senior Project Manager sflakus@itsi.com www.brownfields2011.org

4 www.brownfieldstsc.org Mercury Mine Site Watershed RI Sediment and soil samples collected from transects along 6 miles of streambed and floodplain and reservoir with deep sediments. Field laboratory with OhioLumex RA-915 with RP-91C attachment for soils testing. 247 samples split for offsite laboratory analysis by EPA CLP lab for total metals. Mercury results used for dynamic field decisions for additional sample locations. APRIL 3-5, 2011 | PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA3 www.brownfields2011.org

5 www.brownfieldstsc.org Lumex Soil Test Data Quality Instrument detection limit (0.5 ppb) lower than action level; precision and accuracy goals met. Offsite laboratory analysis by EPA method 7473 to confirm total metal result (at least 10%). Field chemist trained; pass proficiency test. PE samples provided, confirmed by EPA QA. Multi-point calibration curve performed daily, traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards. Duplicate samples tested (at least 10%).
