Putting our Heads Together.

Ever thought ‘this isn’t working’? A few of the Alliance members did. They were finding the funding system for NRM in the Rangelands to be: – Inefficient – Competitive – Geographically based Then they thought ‘just because the system is like that doesn’t mean we have to be! “

The Rangeland NRM Alliance was Born. 13 NRM Organisations = 80% of Australia’s land mass.

How it works The Alliance is a partnership of regional NRM It delivers projects using members/partners as proponents. Promotes national NRM issues for Rangelands Provides a central contact for responses to National issues on behalf of its members.

The Alliance likes other people The Alliance is dedicated to partner approaches both within its membership and with other agencies/organisations. The approach is informal and pragmatic. Working together to solve problems and reach goals.

And it has been quietly working. Feral Camel Management – Identified feral camels as a major threat. – Camels are a moving target – Members had individual and cross regional projects – Needed to combine resources for cross jurisdictional action – Result: National Camel Management Project (Ninti 1)

Australian Invasive Cactus Network What a prickly problem! But where is it all and how much need is there for action Easy collection of data and movement from a regional issue to national action. Result: National Invasive Cacti Network

The Future The Alliance plans to expand its focus from project development Designing a strategic approach to NRM in the Rangelands. Initiatives to meet regional targets through national recognition and funding rangeland priorities.
