2 QUEEN HATSHEPSUT’S FAMILY  Hatshepsut was the daughter of King Thutmose I.  She married her half brother Thutmose II.  Hatshepsut became a regent for her stepson Thutmose III. Later, when she had to give up her power and let Thutmose III become pharaoh, she refused and took the title of pharaoh.  Queen Hatshepsut was the only daughter of Thutmose I.  Queen Hatshepsut had no sons and only one daughter named Nerfure.

3 QUEEN HATSHEPSUT’S DOMESTIC POLICY  Queen Hatshepsut ruled from c.1437bc -1458bc.  Unlike other pharaohs, Hatshepsut was interested in restoring the wealth of Egypt.  She lead huge restoration projects in Egypt.  She extended her father’s tomb to be buried with him when she died.  Hatshepsut wanted to be buried in the Valley of the Kings to be remembered as a great pharaoh.  She made a huge effort to add a shrine to Amon-re’s temple.

4 QUEEN HATSHEPSUT'S FOREIGN POLICY  Queen Hatshepsut started a short successful military campaign in Nubia at the beginning of her reign.  Overall, Queen Hatshepsut was more interested in trading than in fighting wars.  Most of Queen Hatshepsut’s trade was with southern Asia.  The currency for trade was bronze, gold, and silver coins.  One major place were Egyptians traded were market places.  Sometimes pharaoh’s would accept wives in order to promote peace between countries.

5 QUEEN HATSHEPSUT WAS FAMOUS FOR  Queen Hatshepsut was the longest ruling pharaoh of Egypt.  Despite her being a female, all of her statues and portraits showed her with a fake beard and male body to show that she was a strong pharaoh.  As pharaoh, she couldn’t divorce.  Queen Hatshepsut was the first female pharaoh of Kemet.  Queen Hatshepsut became so over obsessed about being seen as a male pharaoh, she took away the “t” in her name to make her name sound more like a male name.
