5. Skin Functions Protection Skin acts as a barrier between the outside world and the human body. Protects against injury and harmful UV light.

6. Skin Functions Maintaining body temperature Body heat is lost through the skin. The skin regulates body temperature by the blood vessels and by sweating. Vessels dilate to give off more heat (flushing). They contract to hold it in. Sweat evaporates taking heat with it.
