3  ASIMO, Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, and is the most advanced humanoid robot in the world.  It is the first humanoid robot in the world that can walk independently and climb stairs.  It has arms and hands so it can do things like turn on light switches, open doors, carry objects, and push carts.  Rather than building a robot that would be another toy, Honda wanted to create a robot that would be a helper for people, help the elderly, or help the confined.

4 Form:  ASIMO stands 4 feet 3 inches (130 cm) tall and weighs 119 pounds (54kg).  ASIMO is powered by a re-chargeable 51.8V lithium ion battery with an operating time of one hour.lithium ion battery  ASIMO has a three-dimensional computer processor that was created by Honda and consists of a three stacked die, a processor, a signal converter and memory.die Mobility:  ASIMO has a walking speed of 1.7 mph (2.7 km/hour) and a running speed of 3.7 mph (6km/hour).  ASIMO can adjust the length of its steps, body position, speed and the direction in which it is stepping.

5  It has the ability to recognize moving objects, postures, gestures, its surrounding environment, sounds andfaces, which enables it to interact with humans.recognize moving objectsgesturesfaces  The robot can detect the movements of multiple objects by using visual information captured by two camera "eyes" in its head and also determine distance and direction.  It responds to questions by nodding or providing a verbal answer and can recognize approximately 10 different faces and address them by name.

6 1986 - Static walking:  It walked very slowly, takes 20 seconds to complete a single step.In static walking, after the robot begins moving one foot forward, it has to wait untill it has its weight balanced on that foot before it begins to move the other foot forward. Humans don't walk that way, so the research continued. 1987 - Dynamic walking :  With this walking technology, the robot (now called prototype E1, soon followed by E2 and E3 as research progressed) leaned into the next step, shifting its weight and moving the other foot forward to catch itself so that rather than falling forward, it walked forward.

9 ADVANCEMENT OF PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES 1.ASIMO'S Motion:Walk like a Human:  It has soft projections on its feet that play a similar role to the one our toes play when we walk.  This soft material also absorbs impact on the joints, just as our soft tissues do when we walk.  They perform the tasks of: 1. sensing the position of ASIMO's body and the speed at which it is moving. 2. relaying adjustments for balance to the central computer

10  ASIMO can sense falling movements and react to them quickly; They wanted the robot to have a smooth gait as well as do something that other robots can't do – turn without stopping.  It adjusts any of the following factors in order to maintain the right position: 1. the length of its steps. 2. its body position. 3. its speed. 4. the direction in which it is stepping.

11  A humanoid robot that must navigate through homes, buildings, or outdoors while performing jobs must be able to make sense of the many objects it "sees." Shadows and movements must be understandable. ASIMO's vision system consists of two basic video cameras for eyes, located in its head.  It uses stereoscopic vision and a proprietary vision algorithm that lets it see, recognize, and avoid running into objects even if their orientation and lighting are not the same as those in its memory database. These cameras can detect multiple objects, determine distance, perceive motion, recognize programmed faces and even interpret hand motions. ASIMO'S SENSES

12 CONTROLLING ASIMO  ASIMO is not an autonomous robot. It can't enter a room and make decisions on its own about how to navigate. ASIMO either has to be programmed to do a specific job in a specific area that has markers that it understands, or it has to be manually controlled by a human.  ASIMO can be controlled by four methods: 1.Wireless controller (sort of like a joystick) 2.Gestures 3.Voice commandsjoystick

13 POWERING ASIMO  ASIMO has 34 servo motors in its body that move its torso, arms, hands, legs, feet, ankles and other moving parts. ASIMO manages a series of servo motors to control each kind of movement. ASIMO is powered by a rechargeable, 51.8 volt lithium ion (Li-ION) battery that lasts for one hour on a single charge.lithium ion (Li-ION) battery  The battery is stored in ASIMO's backpack and weighs about 13 pounds. ASIMO's battery takes three hours to fully charge, so a second (and third) battery is crucial if you needed ASIMO to operate for very long. Users can charge the battery onboard ASIMO through a power connection or remove the backpack to charge separately.

16  Going to far away planets.  Spying on people in ways people can't move and from views humans can't reach.  Going far down into the unknown waters where humans would be crushed  Giving us information that humans can't get.  Working at places 24/7 without any salary and food. Plus they don't get bored.

17  People can lose jobs in factories.  It needs a supply of power.  It needs maintenance to keep it running.  It costs money to make or buy a robot.

18  In my opinion the ASIMO robot is an amazing technological advancement  This will allow people allocate their time in a more productive manner  The ASIMO robot will provide a number of positive contributions to human beings
