1 Wild Pigs Kira Lahue

2 The pig is native to Europe and Asia, although it has spread with humans to every continent except Antarctica. Wild pigs usually live about 6 to 8 years Wild male boars have tusks that are usually 3-5 inches long, but some can grow as large as 9 inches long Female sows can have two or more litters of 4-12 piglets every year. This means each female can have 8-24 piglets each year. Wild pigs can be one of the most destructive species on the planet.. What do we know about wild pigs?

7 Yes, but very few. For example, in 2013 there was only one sighting of a wild pig in the entire country. The animals turning up in the wild in Ireland are not actually wild boar but pigs that have escaped and become wild. The wild pigs have been caught on camera living in woodlands in the north Clare/south Galway area. One has been spotted several times in the Loughaun area on the main road between Tulla in County Clare and Gort, County Galway. The wild pigs in Ireland are not native. Wild pigs became extinct in Ireland centuries ago. Are there wild pigs in Ireland?

8 What else is interesting about wild pigs? Some wild hogs have been measured to be about 10 feet long. Because of similar body and organ sizes, pigs have been used for heart valve transplants in humans.
