3 You can CHOOSE one of three things: Avoid. Move the king to a square which is not being attacked by an enemy piece. Block. Move a piece between the King and the enemy piece to block the check. Capture. Capture the attacking piece.

4 Run away to safety!

12 Set up this situation yourself and attempt to checkmate.

19  Use the Rook to restrict the opponent's King.  Support the Rook with the King.  Confine the King to a box and make the box smaller if possible.  If it is not possible to make the box smaller, move the King (a waiting move to force back the opponent's King.)  When the opponent's King is at the side of the board look for one of the checkmating patterns to win the game!
