3 Lewis Carroll – puzzle man Lewis Carroll (real name Charles Dodgson) is one of the most famous and at the same time enigmatic figures of Victorian England. Through the fairy tales know histhe children and adults around the world. And at the same time, the identity of the author has got lots of speculation, rumors and guesses.. He loved puzzles, and, unwittingly, turned into a real puzzle. How? We will talk further…

4 The childhood and youth of Lewis Carroll (1832-1844) The story of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, alias Lewis Carroll was an English writer, mathematics, logic, philosopher and photographer, starts from January 27, 1832. He was born into a British family parish priest in the village of Daresbury, Cheshire. Even as a child, Charles was manifested interest in the subjects with which he will deal with throughout life: mathematics, theology and the arts.

5 In the early years Charles really wanted to become an artist. He painted mostly pencil and charcoal. Having lots of brothers and sisters, he tried in every way to entertain them. Charles invented games for children, wrote stories, which are then read to them at bedtime. He "published" for younger brothers and sisters handwritten journals "Mish-Mash", which they loved. 6 The school years (1844-1867) In 12 years, the future Lewis Carroll enrolled in a private school near Richmond. But there he studied briefly. The school was small and could not able to give the child a decent education. A year later, he entered the school Rugby. There he showed his ability in mathematics and theology. Lewis graduated from College with honors in two majors: mathematics and classical languages.

7 Teaching time L. Carroll (1844-1867) In his free teaching time Lewis wrote science books and pamphlets on logic and mathematics. The most popular of them: "Algebraic analysis of the fifth book of Euclid" (1858, 1868), "Notes on algebraic geometry" (1860), "an Elementary guide to the theory of determinants" (1867), "Euclid and his modern rivals (1879), "Mathematical curiosities" (1888, 1893), "Symbolic logic" (1896).

8 Changed the name Nickname "Carroll" the boy came up during childhood, when he began to write his first poems. The name Lewis Carroll formed from the real name of the author Charles Lutwidge. The writer found analogs his name in Latin, and then changed the names of the places and again translated them into English. So from the Charles H. Lutwidge Dodgson he became known worldwide by Lewis Carroll.

9 Even when training Carroll continued to be creative. One day, he posted a series of pictures in the newspapers of the time. After Revision rejected his drawings, he took up photography. 13 The journey of Lewis Carroll in Russia (1867) In 1867 Carroll for a few months, went on a trip to Russia. Despite the fact that Carroll was not fond of traveling and its most distant trips were visits to relatives, in 1867, he went on a trip to Russia. It was his only departure from England. In those days in England about Russia knew little and was accepted to go to European countries: France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece. Russia, he visited together with Henry Prilidiano.

14 The trip was timed to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of priestly service of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Moscow Filaret.
