1 Making the programme work for your students

2  A strong work focused route which is designed to motivate 14-16 yr old young people.  Vocationally related programmes and courses for young people  Motivation and self confidence for young people to reintegrate back into secondary education

3  A dedicated Keyworker to work with their young people  Allocated weeks per term  Timetable of termly activities  Termly Report for those young people on the programme  The presence of Keyworker at Open / Parent events for feedback to parents on their son/ daughter’s progress to date

4 Young People who:  Are identified as underachieving  Have barriers to learning due to behaviour or personal circumstances  Have been identified as at most risk, disaffected or disengaged from learning  Would be more motivated by a different environment  Have characteristics not suited to setting or curriculum on offer  Have a variety of individual learning and other needs  Have a lack of interpersonal and social skills

5  Beneast will provide schools with information of the project through presentations, meetings and marketing materials and request / invite referrals.  Schools nominated person will approach students and inform them about the programme offerings  Schools will then refer individuals to Beneast  Referred candidates along with their parents would be invited into the training centre / school for an interview  Young people will receive feedback from the interview so they feel that they are important and can take ownership of their Learning Plan

6  Initial interview with parents and Keyworker  Regular meetings with Keyworker to build a constructive relationship and establish learning styles, aspirations, interests, learning goals  Genesys and Basic Skills Assessment (where required)  Development and agreement of initial Learning Plan with young person by utilising their personal strengths and aspirations  Reviews will form the basis of ongoing assessment of the young person throughout their programme  Work placement reviews will encompass feedback from young person, reflective logs, employer feedback to capture information and reflect on the learning experience

7 KS4 Engagement Programme will have due regard to the Principles of the National Curriculum Inclusion Statement by:  Setting suitable learning challenges  Responding to pupils’ diverse learning needs including, learning environments, securing motivation, providing equality of opportunities, setting targets for learning and overcoming barriers  Overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals by working with young people to, manage behaviour and emotions, plan for full participation, develop practical skills, overcoming specific difficulties and plan to complete tasks

8  The programme will be flexible and tailored to address the identified individual needs  Young People will be given the opportunity to pick and mix activities that are relevant to their needs and circumstances, aiding them to progress further and reach their full potential  Continual Support for the Young Person’s reintegration into secondary education and then regular support, mentoring and IAG from Keyworker throughout KS4

9 Learning opportunities can be selected from a full range of activities including:  Support and Mentoring  Development of Functional Skills  One Day Short Courses e.g. Employment Rights and Responsibilities or First Aid  Key Skills Qualifications  Work Preparation Course  Occupational Related Qualifications e.g. Technical Certificate for Early Years

10 These will include;  Work Preparation course with Beneast  Workplace visits, work shadowing  Work Tasters / Sampling  Extended Work Experience Placements  Occupational related Career Workshops e.g. Catering and Hospitality, Retail, Early Years  Motivational Speakers

11 Joanne is not attending school regularly and when she does her behaviour and attitude are disruptive. There are home issues that are also impacting on Joanne’s behaviour. She has stressed that she would like to work with children. Through KS4 Engagement Programme Joanne over a 12 week period could receive:  Initial Interview  1:1 Support, Mentoring and IAG  One Day Food Hygiene Certificate  One Day Health and Safety Certificate  Preparation for work course (1/2 day per week)  Work Taster leading to placement within childcare sector (1 day per week)  Child Care Technical Certificate sessions (1/2 day per week)  Continued support and mentoring throughout KS4

12 Joe is under achieving at school and tends to fool around in class. He does not like school and wants to be doing more practical activities. His aspiration is to work in construction or joinery. Through the KS4 Engagement Programme Joe over a 12 week programme could receive:  Initial Interview  1:1 Support, Mentoring and IAG  One day Employment Rights and Responsibilities Certificate  One Day Health and Safety Certificate  Preparation for work course (1/2 day per week)  Work Taster or work shadowing leading to placement within an occupational related environment (1 day per week)  Key Skill portfolio building (1/2 day per week)  Continued support and mentoring from Keyworker through out KS4

13 Beneast will set up a Key Stage 4 Engagement Steering Group where it is envisaged that a representative from each school will attend with five key purposes: 1. Referral and engagement of young people on to KS4 Engagement Programme 2. Monitor and review achievement and progress of young people 3. Review opportunities available to ensure young peoples needs are being met 4. Monitor quality measures and the KPI’s and their impact for evaluation of the programme 5. Review sustainability of programme when funding ends in July 2009

14  Each school to identify their nominated person that will be the main contact for Beneast  Commitment from schools to actively participate in the Steering Group  Beneast to allocate weeks for Summer Term to schools  Timetable of Summer Term activities provided to school
